I used a 1/4" dowel rod for the stick part with a 1/4" hole for the round base. I got them at Hobby Lobby. You can find these on Amazon or other craft store sites. Be specific with the 1/4" when ordering.
I also added a square dowel, please use the correct "U" shape for the square dowel.
I chose to cut these from birch that are shown in the photo. Be sure you are aware birch has glue pockets and voids and may not always cut all the way through.
