I used a 1/2’ dowel for the legs, but I also included rectangles you glue together if you don’t have dowels. You can also use 1/4” dowels. I added some “daisy washers” so the dowels can be glued in place on top of the shoes.

I chose to cut these from 1/4" birch that are shown in the photo. Be sure you are aware birch has glue pockets and voids and may not always cut all the way through.
